Do you ever wonder why you get so grumpy when hungry?
Turns out, there's a certain hormone in our body that influences our mood (ie anxiety, grumpy) and mind to eat when we're hungry. Ghrelin is a hormone produced in the stomach, and receptors for ghrelin are present throughout the body, including in the brain. When we're hungry, ghrelin stimulates our hunger pangs, thus 'instructs' our brain to eat. When we delay eating, ghrelin can also produce an anxiety response that only goes away when you eat. The emotional response is the body and brain's way of making sure it gets the nutrition it needs.
